A contactless payment, as the name suggests, doesn’t require any physical contact between the buyer’s smartphone or credit card and the POS. Some debit and credit cards have technology that allows you, the customer, to pay for items by tapping or waving their card above the payment reader. Tapping to pay uses short-range wireless technology to make secure payments between a contactless chip card or payment-enabled mobile/wearable device and a contactless-enabled checkout terminal. When you tap your card or device near the Contactless Symbol, your payment is sent for authorization.
